Though not quite rampant, there is definitely a significant presence of teen and adolescent drug and alcohol abuse in New Mexico. Some centers for addiction treatment in New Mexico have patients as young as ten and twelve years on their rolls. This clearly indicates that there is some action required.

There are centers that handle teen and adolescent substance abuse treatment in New Mexico but they do face their own kinds of challenges. For one, the gross ignorance among these youngsters about the addiction is a serious stumbling block. Young persons who get into addiction do so without properly analyzing the repercussions of it. They might have taken it up as a respite from their family problems such as neglect or due to peer pressure. They are not able to comprehend the situation and their own condition properly and they are not able to make the determination that is necessary to pull them out of the addiction. This is what compounds the issue.

Then there is the fact that youngsters who are addicted to alcohol or drugs will need to undergo detox treatment; however, even this is not simple either. Keeping the frail condition of their young bodies in mind, they will need to give a form of medication that is much mellowed down in comparison to what adults are given. But at the same time, as their bodies are developing, there's a greater chance that they will be more highly addicted to the substance.

Hence, there are problems regarding teen and adolescent substance abuse treatment in New Mexico, but it is commendable that the state is taking all requisite measures for it.
