South Dakota is no different from other states of America when it comes to teen drug abuse. Even this state has a very high prevalence of teen substance abuse and though the government is doing all it can to curb this menace, the problem is far from being solved.

There are some forms of drug abuse in South Dakota that are prevalent among the youth. Leading the pack right now is methamphetamine, the drug that has taken the whole world of drug addiction by storm. This drug has clearly superseded other forms of addiction within the last ten years. Methamphetamine is an amphetamine drug that is favored by the youth for the very fast euphoric action that it causes. No sooner is the drug taken than it produces a hyper-secretion of dopamine, which is a pleasure inducing hormone. Under the influence of dopamine, the user tends to forget all cares and worries for a moment. This is what is responsible for the immense popularity of this drug among the youth.

But at the same time, the methamphetamine addiction in South Dakota is posing more problems than can be accounted for. Among other things, it is responsible for increasing the AIDS risk because the drug is always consumed in groups and its consumption is followed by an aphrodisiac effect.

Today, methamphetamine is the number one form of drug addiction in South Dakota. Cocaine and heroin have been left far behind, but are being used nonetheless. The government is seriously trying to bring down all these forms of addiction.
